Conductors

The internationally acclaimed Danish conductor, Thomas Dausgaard, has been the Swedish Chamber Orchestra’s Music Director since 1997. Alongside its work with Dausgaard, the orchestra has also established strong relationships with various conductors including Andrew Manze and H K Gruber who, as Artists in Residence, have contributed enormously to the development of the orchestra in specialist early music and contemporary repertoire.

Through the recent addition of Nikolaj Znaider as first guest conductor and Andreas Hanson as artistic advisor in arts education, the orchestra hopes to nurture the next generation of upcoming talent and in turn learn from what their youthful ideas can bring to transporting musical enthusiasm both locally and internationally.

In 2010 the young Australian composer Brett Dean will also feature as an Artist-in-Residence in Örebro. The Swedish Chamber Orchestra has already established a strong rapport with Dean who has visited Örebro on a number of occasions and recently recorded a CD of his works together: “Water Music” was released on BIS in Autumn 2009 and the title work was written for the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

This strong array of conductors are joined by a prestigious list of guest artists in Örebro in the 2009 / 2010 season including Angela Hewit, Gerhard Oppitz, Lawrence Renes, Leila Josefowiz, Håkan Hardenberger, Francois Leleux, Lionel Bringuier, Iris Vermillion, Katarina Karneus and Nina Stemme.
