SWEDISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CELEBRATES 15 YEARS WITH PERFORMANCES AT THE RHEINGAU...
ÖREBRO, 23 APRIL 2010 – Together with Music Director Thomas Dausgaard and soprano soloist Nina Stemme, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 15th anniversary with concerts at the Rheingau Music Festival (19 August), Örebro (21 August), the London Proms (23 August), Oslo (24 August), Karlstad, Sweden (26 August) and Salzburg (28 August). The Salzburg concert marks the occasion of the orchestra’s debut at the prestigious Salzburg International Festival. The programme for the summer tour includes Albert Schnelzer’s A freak in Burbank, both Schumann’s Zwickau Symphony and Symphony no. 2, Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été and Beethoven Symphony no. 7 (programme per venue detailed below).

This month Thomas Dausgaard announced that he will extend his contract as Music Director to the Swedish Chamber Orchestra to the 2012 / 13 season. Having joined the ensemble in 1997 when the Swedish Chamber Orchestra was still a fledgling ensemble, Thomas Dausgaard has been key to the evolvement and success of the orchestra which, in a period of just a few years, has established itself on the international scene and gained accolade from the New York Times for its “surprising and fresh” sound.
