Having listened to the CD more than a dozen times, I find Beamish difficult to pin down - a situation I regard as a plus. Her strengths are immediately obvious: clear and precise textures, and executan's understanding of the intrinsic beauties of the viola, and a control of form (albeit of a rhapsodic bent)... All thre works were composed for the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra between 2000 and 2002, when Beamish was one of two composers in residence.... I Beamish paints a fascinating and specific landscape, these musicians are entirely at home in it. The Swedish Chamber Orchestra bring every strand of the composer's texture to life..."
